‘An Unfinished Artwork’ by Amit Misra, Pencil on Paper.
There are so many things that I want to talk about, so many experiences that I want to share with you. I do not know where to start. I have been talking to you already for four years now, and truly speaking, I haven’t even started talking about the things that I had intended to talk about. Time and again I keep hopping from one subject to another. I did plan and tried to do all the art-related talk first, then everything about books and so on, but after some time it all became monotonous, and time and again I get the temptation and urge to talk about something else. It is otherwise ok, however the problem comes up when I write a series of articles. See, I had started few series on this blog — Stories That Influenced Me, A Real Hero, Clash Of Legends, My Favourite Stories From Contemporary Bengali Literature, Translation and so on. But in nearly all the cases, after sharing a few episodes, the series suffered interruption as I hopped on to some other subject. So at the time of this writing, I have nearly all the series in an unfinished state. It must be very confusing and annoying to you dear reader, but sorry I cannot help it. I am also an ordinary human being and have my own stock of flaws.
The reason I am so much apologetic today is that today I happened to have a look at the contents I had posted in the last one year. I was shocked to see that one of the series ‘My Favourite Stories From Contemporary Bengali Literature’ had only one episode posted so far. Yes, that time I was under a lot of stress and there was some specific reason for writing that particular article and sharing that story. Surely I had planned it to be part of a series, but could not implement it beyond the first story. So I plan — but I do not promise — to complete all the pending tasks and to bring all these series to their intended finish before penning any new content or ideas. It is very unhealthy to keep unfinished tasks at hand because they incur a lot of ‘maintenance cost’ involving principally mental effort.
But this would also mean that I would have to postpone my intended upcoming posts and series. See, 2019 was an important year, because important time-landmarks occurred this year. I had planned to write a long series of articles to commemorate these historical events. From the very beginning I knew that I would not be able to meet the deadline for each article because writing those review articles would involve a lot of reading, browsing, exploring before I could gather adequate information and knowledge required for writing those articles. I knew I would not be able to accomplish it considering the limited time available. I invited guest articles but could not get any positive response. So I understood Apna Haath Jagannath — it is good to do one’s tasks oneself.
Not an easy task. All the best 🙂
