Few Kind Words

Hope your Valentine’s Day went nice. It is a good respite in otherwise unpleasant times. In spite of all suggestions to the contrary, humanity has never given up on love — using the word in the most general sense and not confining to the physical world.  Hence we see it being kept alive through movies, novels, songs, political speeches . . . A Love Story

A young boy of about 16 years of age, whispers to a young girl of nearly the same age:

— I love you.

The girl turns red and runs away.

Couple of years later, the two — now young and blooming at about 20 years of age — got married. One bright morning, the young man took the tender hands of his wife, and said softly:

— I love you.

Children and Values

A big issue is always made of the lack of sense of Indian values in the children today. Before I put forward my views on the topic, I would like to ask what does one mean by Indian values. These are the thoughts, which have been the leading light of the Indian civilization for ages, and these are the principles on which the foundation of the Republic of India was laid. My Room Mates

69c33-lilly

I have four room-mates sharing my quarters. Lizards. They possess such high level of expertise in Tiger Leap that even Akshay Kumar has not been able to accomplish. That means, if some delicious looking insect comes within their field of view, they do not hesitate to take the jump in mid-air. Once in a while one of them would crawl on my laptop and peep from behind the screen as if trying to see what is going on there. Continue reading

Take Care When Writing

I will tell you one story — not in full or translation — instead, just a short summary. It was written by Hindi writer Yashpal.

A very dutiful and responsible young teacher was given additional charge of the NCC in an intermediate college. Before the vacations, all the uniforms were supposed to be cleaned, and locked in the store room; after the vacations, the cadets were supposed to attend a camp. On the last day, the teacher noticed that the uniforms were not ready for storage. Continue reading

I Do Not Know

After having worked for several years in any specific field, it becomes generally understood, accepted, and acknowledged that the scholars must be experts in the field. People from other fields, or the same field but having different expertise, as also general public, would look up to them to be educated and get any doubts cleared. Whatever they tell, others accept as truth, without feeling any need to cross-examine the facts. What is the need? — afterall they are experts, aren’t they? In fact, that is one of the rationales behind the enormous investment made by any government into higher education. Continue reading

Is It That Important?

e7887-29635236651_7496b1a7d4_nI propose that for one full year, all newspapers should change their emblems. Even the electronic media could do the same. All of them would have the same emblem — a skull and two bones — the usual representation of death. Let all people wake up in the morning, and before opening themselves to their daily dose of news and analysis come face to face with the skull, be reminded every morning of the inevitability of their end. All is going to end, all are going to end. In the conclusion, all is either ash or dust. Nothing else matters. Continue reading

In Praise Of Laziness

Let's Be Lazy!

I expect the bones of an individual to be stronger and in better condition than the rest of the body constituents. How less effort is involved in vitamin D intake! Just lie down in the sun. You do not have to work out, sweat out, not even make the little effort of eating. Just keep lying there. If anyone tries to agitate you, rebuke you, and interrupt you in your occupation and urges you to do something else that is considered to be more important, you may simply protest — ‘Can’t you see? I am making my bones stronger!’ Continue reading
